On February 28th, Ms. Weaver and her students participated in an Art in History project, learning about and decorating African Kuba Bantu Masks. These masks are often worn by tribal dancers, and sometimes royalty. The masks are usually adorned with geometric patterns, cowry shells, and beads – these symbolize royalty. Sometimes the masks are also decorated with vertical lines down the cheeks, these represent the pain of love ones lost. Students completed the project as a culminating activity for Black History Month after school.
